3100 or 3200? Which is right for me?

Available as two base models, the standard 3100 and the heavy-duty 3200, both offer the same key features and benefits but depend on your application.3100/3200 Series from Gems

When would I specify the 3100 for my application and when would I use the 3200?

The 3100 Series is considered the standard pressure sensor version for most applications.

The 3200 heavy-duty series, on the other hand, is ideal for use in hydraulic applications where the sensor will see lots of spikes in (over) pressure. A spike is when pressure accelerates very quickly in the system and momentarily goes beyond the working pressure.

What about performance? Are there any differences between the 3100 and 3200?

Looking at the side-by-side specs of a 3100 vs. a 3200, you will see two major differences:

Proof Pressure:

Proof pressure is the maximum pressure that can be applied to a sensor without causing mechanical degradation.

The 3100 typically has a 1.4 to 3x FS (Full Scale) proof pressure spec while the 3200 is typically 2.5 to 3x FS proof pressure spec, depending on the pressure range.  The range depends on the operating pressure.

Accuracy:

Accuracy is the value of the error of how closely a pressure sensor can send an output with respect to the actual pressure in the system being measured.

The 3100 typically has a 0.25% FS (Full Scale) accuracy error pressure while the 3200 is typically 0.25 FS to 0.5% FS, depending on the pressure range.

O200 Miniature Photoelectric Sensors- Shiny, Transparent, Deep-Black Object Detection Made Easy

Photoelectric Sensors are found in many industrial installations in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, and they all basically perform the same function, the detection of objects passing through their beams.  The result of the sensors beam being broken could be an alarm if an item is missing or a signal triggering another function of an industrial automation process.

When the application concerns very transparent items or ones that are deep-black in colour and/or feature very irregular surfaces, then you will need to look beyond the average sensor offering.

The Baumer O200 Sensor range is one of the smallest available, but make no mistake, these are very capable sensors! This impressive range of miniature photoelectric sensors have been designed to detect awkward objects with a fast response time and with the highest of precision. Available to purchase from Kempston Controls, they come with a laser or LED output, V point or line beam shapes, thus providing the engineer with a versatile list of options for precise object detection. Whether components are transparent, small, passing by on a fast-moving conveyor, deep-black in colour or irregularly shaped and shiny this range of sensors will have a solution in its ranks.

Unaffected by LED Light & Reflections with Ambient Light Immunity & Reliability

With their innovative light algorithm, these photoelectric sensors ensure maximum detection reliability in any lighting situation, the interfering sources identified by the algorithm are suppressed so a high measurement speed can be maintained.

With 3 sensing solutions for long-term stable detection of transparent objects such as glass or PET bottles, ampoules, foils and trays:

V-optics – ideal for short distances and for the detection of shiny and transparent objects, with background suppression for distances up to 15 mm. Offering maximum luminous efficacy thanks to their V-shaped, extremely narrow LED light beams.

SmartReflect – transparent object detection without a reflector with a pinpoint LED or a laser light source with ranges up to 180 mm. Contamination or changes in the reference surface are not a problem with built-in compensation for a consistent stable application.

Retro-reflective photoelectric sensor with single lens optics – A pinpoint LED or laser light source and a range of up to 4 m. With a transmitting and receiving beam on the same axis providing reliable object detection, built-in compensation for the reflector and an additional mode for the detection of tears in transparent films.

RFID Sensor – the SICK RFU61x, Big Ability in a Small Package

What is RFID Technology?

RFID, or Radio Frequency Identification, is a method of transferring information between two entities, these being an RFID tag that carries information and a RFID scanner or reader to decode that data. Using electromagnetic field technology, when an item adorned with an RFID tag passes a suitable scanner that information is captured, extracted, and acted upon, or not, by the control system that is interpreting the data.

RFID tags and readers do not need a line of sight to function, they merely need to pass within the detecting range of each other. RFID Sensor tags can be found in many applications, such as attached to clothing in a store, under the skin to identify pet ownership, in a car key fob or in production operations, monitoring the progress of a product through each stage of manufacture, all of them containing data that is accessible by a suitable reader.

RFID technology exists in many forms and for many purposes and SICK, world-renowned manufacturers of sensors and sensing solutions are no strangers to RFID technology, here we preview the RFU61x UHF RFID Sensor.

The RFU61x UHF RFID Sensor, Small and Powerful

The RFU61x RFID Sensor from SICK, is one of the smallest read/write device of its type on the market, ideally suited for IIoT applications involving the identification of production workpieces or components.
