RFID UHF Read/Write Head from Pepperl + Fuchs– the most compact reader in its class

Pepperl+Fuchs has expanded its extensive portfolio of industrial identification devices with the IUT-F190-B40 UHF RFID Read/Write Head, featuring 1000mW ERP transmitting power, integrated Industrial Ethernet interface and REST API. Easily integrated into IT systems using the REST API, this versatile UHF read/write head can be fully parameterised and operated via this interface, eliminating the need for PLC programming.

The IUT-F190 also has two inputs and one output, meaning light barriers can be connected directly, making it possible to start and stop the read operation or to detect throughput direction with no additional IO components required. Using the output, a signal light can indicate that the read/write head is ready for operation or that an operation was successful.

Quick and Easy Integration

Designed for medium detection ranges (around 2 meters), the IUT-F190-B40 utilises Industrial Ethernet and REST API technologies allowing it to be quickly and easily integrated into OT and IT systems, an ideal solution for industry 4.0 production control and monitoring & track-and-trace applications. In addition, the integrated web interface of the IUT-F190-B40-UHF can be used for parameterisation and commissioning and when used with the Pepperl + Fuchs IDENTControl Control Interface (enquire for details)  it is possible to connect up to 4 read/write heads at the same time, prebuilt function blocks make installation easy and provides connectivity to several standard fieldbuses and has excellent EMC immunity.

Robust and durable, the IUT- F190-B40 features an IP67 rated PA housing and has a wide temperature range making it suitable for use in numerous demanding industrial environments. Based on UHF RFID technology, this read/write head achieves high read ranges and detection speeds and supports multi-tag reading. The large number of radio approvals and bus interfaces means that the F190 can be used globally.

Compact Design

The built-in, automatically switchable antenna polarisation provides reliable identification even when the tag orientation is inconsistent or unknown. The compact housing (114x112x63 mm) with integrated antenna makes this capable read/write head suitable for installation in confined spaces without compromising on range & transmission power. SicWave – 80 GHz Free-space Radar Level Detection for all Liquids and Solids

The storage of products such as grains, sugar, ore and liquids can take up a lot of space, typically utilising silo systems which can reach considerable heights. Measuring the level of product within these storage facilities can be difficult at the best of times where both the height and the media within can cause various issues with accurate level sensing. Similarly, production processes that involve stirrers and preparation tanks can create internal environments where accurately measuring the level of the contents within is challenging.

SIRIUS ACT with PROFINET – Solving a Furnace Control Issue

Despite the efficiency and ease-of-use of modern HMI, sometimes there will be situations where they are not going to be fit for purpose, such as within extremely dusty and hot manufacturing and processing environments. This was the problem encountered when a decision was made to install a control system for a Walking Beam Furnace by a local manufacturer.

Building the Solution

The system required easy mobility of the equipment allowing the operator to raise and lower the beam furnace, move it forward and backward, and open and close the door to the furnace. As the staff had to wear heavy protective clothing due to the excessive temperatures, including thick gloves, this made the use of HMI touch screens impossible. The Siemens SIRIUS ACT product range appeared to be the perfect solution.

The renowned SIRIUS ACT commanding and signalling devices in combination with PROFINET not only reduces installation costs, but also allows direct connection of the commanding and signalling devices to the machine control via PROFINET , providing a high level of flexibility and expandability.

Martin Brown, Product Manager for Siemens in Manchester, said: ‘Our SIRIUS ACT with PROFINET was the ideal solution in this circumstance. It is a robust and durable product that has the highest IP rating, and is ideal for a heavy manufacturing environment. It is also extremely easy to control, even when the operator is wearing gloves.

The application required that the pushbutton station be located a set distance from the programmable logic controller (PLC), and also avoid the need for civil works, such as placing cables underground. The pushbutton station in the existing application featured 14 buttons including a failsafe E-Stop. A couple of the devices had additional inputs and outputs and two of the digital inputs for limit switches on doors that, without the IO, would need to be wired back to the panel. A potentiometer was also used as a speed control for some of the pumps in the system.

A Range of Benefits

The benefits of SIRIUS ACT with PROFINET were obvious, there is just one cable, dramatically reducing the amount of cabling required compared to other solutions. That single cable runs from the PLC to the PROFINET gateway then the pushbuttons are wired from the gateway, simple, cost effective, and time saving.

This solution provided potential for up to 21 signalling devices as well as the pushbuttons and E-Stops that could be connected to Siemens’ Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) Portal. The TIA Portal provides instant feed-back on cable faults with accurate diagnosis. The system also includes a multifunctional and modular Siemens ET200 failsafe central CPU, so, in the event of a connection loss, the failsafe will automatically trigger.

Easy to Assemble

Significant savings on cost and set-up were reported thanks to the simplicity of the system and its installation. The assembly time of the controller took just 2.5 hours, including cutting holes for the pushbuttons and wiring using flat ribbon cable between devices, allowing their engineer to focus on other aspects of the installation.

The simplicity of the SIRIUS ACT with PROFINET system was clearly demonstrated by this project, for the same amount of pushbuttons, but using a different set up, the installation would have required a minimum of: a 35-core multi core cable, a screened cable for the potentiometer, terminals, cables, ferrules, wire numbers, additional digital 16-way IO, and an analogue card. The use of SIRIUES ACT products helped provide an overall installation cost saving of around 50% and with the added advantages of simpler servicing, maintenance and repair schedules, you can’t go wrong.

SICK W4 Inox Miniature Photoelectric Sensors, Small, Tough & Powerful

Size does not guarantee strength or ability and this is certainly the case with the SICK W4 Inox range, SICK’s first miniature stainless steel photoelectric Inox sensor that has been designed for use in the most demanding hygienic installations, such as Sterilise-in-Place (SIP) & Clean-in-Place (CIP). Part of the trend towards ‘edge computing’ capability, Smart Tasks remove processing time and load from PLCs or other higher-level controls.

The W4 Inox’s ability to operate defined tasks autonomously and remotely will therefore be particularly attractive in high-speed food processing plants, filling and packaging lines. It offers a chance to improve production efficiency and enable greater process responsiveness including more frequent product changeovers.”

 

 

Smarter Than Your Average Sensor

The W4 Inox’s built-in Smart Tasks initiates logic functions that process the sensors signals, linking them with additional binary switching signals from an external sensor if necessary. The Smart Task utilises this processing data to generate output process signals from the sensor.
For example, the SICK W4 Inox Smart Sensor can detect and measure objects and gaps between bottles on a filling line using the ‘object and gap monitor’ ability. As opposed to the PLC interpreting data, the W4 Inox alerts the control system only if there are deviations from predetermined values while controlling the process at hand.

The W4 Inox’s “counting and debouncing” Smart Task feature enables a quick completeness check, offering extra protection against errors caused by PLC cycling time. Immune to ambient light and with excellent background suppression the W4 can detect reflective, transparent, and jet-black objects with ease.

Capacitive Sensors, Helping you find your level

The LevelMaster Capactive Sensor options from Rechner, which come complete with the widely used G½” thread, have been specially designed to cater for smooth and sticky media making them perfect for a huge range of level control situations in the pharmaceutical and food and beverage industries

The original LevelMaster Sensor range, which set new standards for the detection of sticky or highly conductive media, have now been complimented by a low dielectric version for dry and powdered products. Capable and dependable, these level sensors also feature Rechner’s ATEX All-In-One direct PNP connection thus eliminating a costly interface barrier typically needed in such installations.

The dielectric constant, DK or Ɛr, is the permittivity of a detected product which is the parameter measured by Capacitive Sensors. The higher the dielectric constant of the material, the easier it is to detect.

Reliable Solutions

One sensor cannot cover all applications and so there are two highly-reliable solutions. One uses high frequencies for the higher DK applications and a second, low-frequency option for very low DK media detection.

capacitive sensorThe LevelMaster-KS-801 series offers the optimum level control of conductive and/or sticky products with high a DK, such as fruit purées, syrup, sauces, vinegar-based preparations and conductive egg-based products such as batter and mayonnaise. These sensors are also excellent for all dairy applications including yogurt level control. For bulk materials with a lower DK, such as sugar, coffee, flour or maize meal, there’s the LevelMaster-KAS-80 range of ATEX certified sensors which can detect products with a dielectric of Ɛr 1.1.

LevelMaster Sensors are always set with a ‘Full’ configuration. A media optimisation facility then enables them to ignore any product build-up which has stuck onto the sensor face, so a wide range of media can be detected with just one setting.

Simple Set-Up

Set-up couldn’t be easier, once installed, sensor adjustment is done via an Easy Teach by Wire (ETW) facility, no PC or additional programming interface devices are required making initialisation straight forward and error-free whether at the sensor or the control panel.

The LevelMaster sensing tip is of an FDA-approved material plus it has traceability to EC 1935/2004. The build material of the Capacitive Sensors have a high-chemical resistance and the surface quality is also in accordance with the needs of the Pharmaceutical and Food Processing Industries, e.g. a roughness depth < 0.8 µm which guarantees excellent cleanability for CIP & SIP regimes.

As standard, each Level Sensors includes the Rechner Quatro-Protect facility, which has the highest protection against electrical noise, spikes and transients delivering the best safeguard available from all interference. For easier installation G½” welding adaptors as well as other process connections such as Tri-Clamp or Varivent adaptors are available.
