[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]On Monday 26th February SICK launched their new range of Photoelectric Sensors, the W16 and W26 ranges.
In an effort to slim down their extensive range of products, these are the first to be released to cover a multitude of applications. The project is expected to be complete in 2020 with the main portfolio containing the W2, W4, W9, W16, W26, V180, h18 and WLL180 ranges with all others being phased out gradually. More specialised sensors like the heavy duty, ATEX and low-price versions will not be affected.
New range
The W16 and W26 range consists of through beam, diffuse and retro reflective photoelectric sensors. They are manufactured in a new purpose built, fully automated production facility in Germany. They were created following a two year research and development project with Sick customers worldwide.
What is different about the new range?
They contain new technology which Sick calls “BluePilot”. This features a line of 5 LEDs on the top of the sensor. For the retro reflective and through beam versions this helps with alignment especially over longer distances. The more LEDs lit and the brighter, the better the alignment. For diffuse sensors it is used to indicate the range and sensor mode. When the sensing distance is adjusted the LEDs will increase and de-crease accordingly.
They also combine a potentiometer and push-to teach button on the top of the sensor that can be adjusted manually with a screwdriver. Thanks to high-performance detection technologies, they detect shiny, uneven, per-forated, and transparent objects more reliably than ever.
